It is that famous time of year when we start planning and reflecting on how we can update our dining or living rooms in preparation for the Holiday Season.
I find, in my style making experience, that most of our clients have amazing pieces, treasures, heirlooms and fabulous furnishings that just need a little TLC or juxtaposition. Some of my most rewarding rooms have transitioned before my very eyes by simply rearranging the fabulous objects our clients already have.
Sure, it is so gratifying to make a purchase for that “special” piece, but for me, you really need to know exactly what it is that you are looking for before you go shopping. Rearranging and restyling your existing pieces before you go shopping is a good way to identify what pieces are missing.
Last week I was styling a new home for a super fun client that just moved to Corona Del Mar from Florida. This larger than life and adorable client happened to have delicious treasures from all of her travels and she invited me to help her get settled in her new space. She was overwhelmed and stuck with the feeling that nothing fit right in her new home and she was under the impression that she needed all new pieces. Knowing this was not the case, I rolled up my sleeves, kicked off my kitten heels and moved every piece she had out of her design-challenged space. We were busy and I was so in my element. As I have mentioned before in previous posts, I love rearranging furniture to a fault.
The progress we made in 2 hours by re-arranging her existing pieces and adding a few more new selections from our quick run to the Laguna Design Center for the sample sale was a huge success! The client now feels grounded and happy! She can enjoy the holidays in her fresh, stylish and well-traveled space.
