Project California

Shoreline Deveoplers and Crew

The "crew" at Shoreline Developers

Our newest project is in the Port Streets neighborhood in Newport Beach, California!  We have the great honor of doing the design renovations and project management for a beautiful family relocating to California from the Mid-West. This delightful family just purchased a home in one of the most desirable communities in Orange County, commonly referred to as the "Port Streets".

Sérendipité and Shoreline Developers have teamed up to create a dreamy sanctuary for this lovely family of five.  Demolition started last week and in just a few days the progress is unbelievable. Among the removal of a few walls to create an open family room/dining concept we are doing a lot of updating to this charming home that was built in 1970. The overall design style we are trying to achieve would best be described as classic California with a nod to coastal inspiration.

Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting project is slotted to be move-in ready June 25, 2014.

On a Roll

New update on the Palos Verdes renovation: Last week was a busy week for client Annette and I. We are making great progress and definitely beginning to hone the overall details of her kitchen and bathroom renovations. We spent a lot of quality time together shopping and working on all the details of her home - big and small. We went shopping for natural stone countertops for the kitchen and visited several stone yards to weigh out our options to make certain that we selected the most gorgeous slabs for the new kitchen. We also carefully thought through the new footprint for the guest bath, master bath and kitchen.

We had a fabulous visit with my buddy Gina at Pirch! For those of you who are not familiar with Pirch, it is a definite must see “interactive kitchen, bath and outdoor showroom” at SoCo in Costa Mesa.  They have brilliant service and wonderful offerings.

It has been fun getting to know Annette and Dick.  They are so passionate about making the right choices for their family home, which warms my heart.

Beach Bungalow Finale

As promised, the final professional photographs of one of my most recent projects, the lovely Beach Bungalow, are complete.  This Newport Beach town-home started as a diamond in the rough but with LOTS of tender loving care and months of hard work she is now a stunning beauty!  It was all worth the wait.

A special thanks to my clients, Robin & Steve, for being a joy to work with, Shoreline Developers for their beautiful execution and attention to detail and for the artistic skills of Christina House in capturing the spirit of this home in her gorgeous photographs.

Happy Designing!

I heart San Francisco

Valerie at the airport heading to San Francisco & The San Francisco Design Center

I was recently hired for my first ever "destination" design project, south of San Francisco. I have the honor of designing the remodel of a classic style home built in 1949.

I am thrilled to have met this darling couple and their three beautiful young boys. I could not ask for a more exciting and inspiring design project in my favorite part of the world!

This was my second visit up north, the first visit was to discuss the layout and tweak the plans the architect drew up. This visit was where the real magic began! We toured the San Francisco design center and what a treat! This design center was oozing with energy and fabulous offerings for the design aficionado. We spent hours honing the counter and bath surrounds and let me just report, the tile and stone work will be breathtaking! We also squeezed in some time to visit cabinetry boutiques and a quick trip to Ferguson to learn more about the appliances we are considering.

Stay tuned for more updates about this dreamy design journey.

One of the best comments I have received recently (as far as design goes) is that I created a styled space that looked just like my customer. This lovely and inspiring client entrusted us with the fun opportunity to renovate her adorable home in Rossmoor village. This charming single story home had so much character and was a fabulous palate to really get creative and do some serious updating. The remodel consisted of a renovation of the master bath, opening some walls, new hardwood flooring throughout the house, countertops and fresh paint just to name a few. We really wanted to honor the integrity of this home built in 1957 so we kept the existing cabinet doors, added a fresh coat of paint and painted the fireplace bricks while enhancing the existing stained mantle among a few other unexpected kisses of the old meets new.
Once the renovations were complete our homeowner (and friends) took a deep breath and decided to tackle another design project, the great room. We customized new furnishings from several of my favorite vendors; Witford, Isabella Morgan and Bassman Blaine, all located at the Laguna Design Center. To take the design to the next level we went to the Pasadena flea market to hunt for some-one-of kind treasures. We stumbled across some gorgeous Mongolian wedding quilts from Asia; of course we made pillows out of them! Thanks to Cheryl Thoreen at Thoreen Designs these vintage treasures are now chic beauties!
Creating a room where this wonderful family can really live was a highlight of mine this past year and a room I will always reflect on as being one of my favorite rooms I have had the chance to be a part of.
Enjoy the photos that were shot by the fabulous homeowner herself.

Beachside Bungalow Update

The transformation of this beach bungalow is breathtaking!  I often reflect on my first visit with Robin and look at pictures of the once "standard" looking home and marvel at how it is quickly blossoming into a vacation inspired sanctuary.

The beautiful Calacatta Extra carefully selected at my favorite stone yard, Marbolis (in Anaheim), has gently been installed on the lovely custom cabinetry from Hartmark. Installation of the fabulous Walker Zanger stone products has begun and can we just say, it is more fabulous than we dreamed of!

Our dear client has wonderful taste so collecting these gorgeous pieces along our design journey has perfectly fallen into place.  Perhaps our journey is Serendipity as everything we have set out to discover has developed into something more dreamy and perfect than we had hoped for.

We are excited to share the final presentation in the coming weeks; you will love it I am sure!

Happy designing!

Master Bedroom Inspiration

Back on May 28th we posted the “Town-home Remodel” blog and introduced you to our clients Robin and Steve who bought a beautiful town-home situated in a picturesque beach community. To update the look of the home and make it fit with the seaside style they love, contractors have been busily remodeling for the past 3 months.  Today the custom, kitchen cabinets are being installed and soon the remodel will be nearing an end.

With that being said, last week was the perfect time to presented Robin with my overall vision for the furnishings and textiles in her home. This is the fun part and I am excited to be working with Robin and Steve on this design journey all the way through so they can really put their creative stamp on their beautiful new home and make it everything they have dreamed and more!

town-home remodel

One of Sérendipité’s newest projects is a complete, custom remodel of a Newport Beach town-home overlooking one of Orange County’s most pristine golf courses. It has been a pleasure getting to know and work closely with my new clients. Robin is sweet and endearing while her husband brings the humor to our meetings.  My goal is to turn their new town-home into their dream beach cottage. Robin has lovely taste, envisions a light and airy home and is inspired by Katharine Hepburn’s New England seaside home.  I could not ask for a more inspiring design vision!

In Robin and Steve’s home, I dreamt of taking down walls and making the home feel more spacious. Robin loved my idea and my contractor, Jimmy with Shoreline Developers, was able to execute my vision beautifully. We have created soft arches connecting the kitchen to the living area and the kitchen to the dining area. This architectural enhancement elegantly connects each room together creating a great-room living area.

With any remodel, once construction begins we can never anticipate what lies behind the walls. Unfortunately, we had one of these moments during this project. Once we started the demo of the outdated master bath flooring, Jimmy detected a leak, which has been leaking for some time now.  Jimmy pulled the dry wall back to find that some of the 2x4's were completely rotted. Luckily, this was just a minor setback and the repairs are now being completed!

We are enthusiastic for this refreshing and inspiring design journey and happy and eager to include our blog readers in the design process!
