For the Love of Family

Italian inspired home

We have been blessed with so many wonderful clients over the years but every once in a while we are presented with a family that will rest in our hearts forever.

This family reached out to us last year when they moved from their home in Northwood.  Their kids are raised and gone and because their grandchildren have enhanced their lives they decided to start a new life in Lambert Ranch.

Feeling overwhelmed with the new home purchasing experience, they decided to employ me (I was referred to them due to my prior experience in the new home industry).  I was present with them at every design center appointment and I was a part of most of the interior selections during construction.  The details and the love we all put into carefully selecting each layer of textiles and design is what made this home so very special.

I have to say, this family was really brave and open hearted to this journey and to think that they moved from a home where they had 35 plus years of memories into a brand new home.  I know this sounds dreamy but family is everything to this client and they really risked a lot making such a large move.  I am so thankful that my dear client trusted me and looked to me to guide them through the entire process.  We are sharing some photos of the turn key design of this Old World meets California Styling.

Happy Designing!

This past Thursday, October 2, 2014  marks a very magical and wonderful time for Sérendipité.  As we shared in a previous blog, we had the incredible opportunity to host our own team for this years Designer Runway event, benefitting the Illumination Foundation.

Our Design Inspiration:

Our concept connects the evolution of a butterfly’s life and its metamorphosis to its overall transformation. Echoing the evolution of the interior design journey, every stage of a butterfly’s life is a milestone and a process before it can flourish in its glory of becoming a beautiful butterfly. The interior design process has several stages; each equally as monumental and relevant to help achieve the overall transformation. In translation, the finished space mirrors a luxurious butterfly.  Our clients can now fly in all of their glory and beauty.

sweet dreams & upholstered headboards

Whether your design style is classic and tailored, modern and bold, casual and eclectic, or romantic and elegant, upholstered headboards always add certain warmth and sophistication to a bedroom. The options for designing a custom upholstered headboard are endless – that is why we love them!  They can be designed with any shape and fabric and details including nail heads, trim and tufting give each headboard a unique quality that will fit even the most distinctive design style.
Here are a few favorites.

Master Bedroom Inspiration

Back on May 28th we posted the “Town-home Remodel” blog and introduced you to our clients Robin and Steve who bought a beautiful town-home situated in a picturesque beach community. To update the look of the home and make it fit with the seaside style they love, contractors have been busily remodeling for the past 3 months.  Today the custom, kitchen cabinets are being installed and soon the remodel will be nearing an end.

With that being said, last week was the perfect time to presented Robin with my overall vision for the furnishings and textiles in her home. This is the fun part and I am excited to be working with Robin and Steve on this design journey all the way through so they can really put their creative stamp on their beautiful new home and make it everything they have dreamed and more!

Happy Designing!

Meeting Joe Ruggiero

Among our travels last week to several meetings and shopping excursions for our fabulous clients we could not pass up an invitation to have lunch at the Peninsula hotel in Beverly Hills! Dining at the Peninsula hotel is a treat in itself; we also had the wonderful opportunity to enjoy this beautiful luncheon with design icon Joe Ruggiero and learn about his new fabric line.
Joe and his creative team created a luxury line of Sunbrella fabrics. Let me tell you, Sunbrella is not what it used to be! When I think patio fabrics I think stiff texture, non-pliable and bright, crazy colors and prints. Au contraire, Joe Ruggiero’s Sunbrella line is soft, fluid and all classic textures, prints and luxury.
I get so many requests for indestructible, kid friendly (and messy husband friendly) fabrics when we do custom sofas and chairs. Typically the print is not right or the cost is too high. Well, this line is not only the perfect lead, it is very price sensitive.
My theory is no matter how busy you are, always make time for those special invitations because you never know who you will meet, what you can learn or when you will be inspired. Thanks to John Ruege for this once in a lifetime opportunity and invitation.

A Room of Her Own

As an interior designer I get asked all the time what the interior of my house looks like. My home is filled with meaningful objects and pieces I adore - both big and small. It is a mélange of two of my favorite designer’s styles, with a little bit of French flare (because I love everything French!).

Lately, I have been anxious to re-style my family room with a renewed look, although, with my busy schedule sometimes the updates I want to make on my own home get put on the back burner.  As much as I love my job and being a creative soul, I had the bright idea of having my fabulous design assistant, Melissa, invoke on the journey of pinpointing a fresh, new design style for this space with a new color palate and furniture layout, including re-upholstering existing furnishings, new window treatments and throw pillows and the addition of a few new furniture pieces. Take a look at the Inspiration Board she came up with...a room of my own!

Welcome Water Snake!

This Sunday marks the beginning of the Chinese New Year and 2013 is the year of the WATER Snake. Water is the most yin/feminine element. This is appropriate because at Sérendipité we so often tend to nod to the feminine and romantic in our design styles we create for our clients. And of course, anyone who knows me personally or has been to my design parlour knows from the minute they walk through my door that I also love anything feminine and romantic. Ever so appropriate for my favorite time of year, you guessed it, Valentine’s Day!

It is said, the Snake year is quiet and introspective, powerful and intense. A deep contrast as we turn down the volume from the energy of the previous Dragon year. In Snake year, events occur very slowly and preparation and planning are key; inspiring as I plan my wedding nuptials and send my beloved daughter off to college this bright 2013.

So in a Snake year, more than any other year, it is very helpful to focus on your master retreat bycreating healing and serenity. This theory is insightful as we are having many requests from our clients to update their master retreats. Perhaps this jump-start into 2013 is inspiring us to focus on what is the most import function of productivity and success, rest!

The Snake loves knowledge, wisdom, and learning. Creating ideas to inspire clarity in this New Year is your key to attracting the abundance you desire! Your knowledge corner is in the left corer of each room. This area should represent fresh, bright ideas! Creating a knowledge corner in every room will help you focus to increase your inner awareness, understanding, and enhance your spiritual side. Be sure to keep your knowledge corner clean and simple, as I always encourage the mindset, less is more. Too much clutter sabotages clarity and prevents us from creating abundance! A stack of books creating an altar for learning and inspiration is a perfect place for your knowledge corner. Fresh flowers or plants encourages life, fresh ideas and create oxygen.

Is it Chance or "Sérendipité"?  The year of the Snake and the tradition that follows the wisdom of the Water Snake coincides with the color forecast for 2013, emerald, essentially representing, balance, harmony, knowledge and elegance.

We look forward to inspiring you to create some "yin" in this exciting new year of change, growth and much abundance!

Happy designing!
