For the Love of Family

Italian inspired home

We have been blessed with so many wonderful clients over the years but every once in a while we are presented with a family that will rest in our hearts forever.

This family reached out to us last year when they moved from their home in Northwood.  Their kids are raised and gone and because their grandchildren have enhanced their lives they decided to start a new life in Lambert Ranch.

Feeling overwhelmed with the new home purchasing experience, they decided to employ me (I was referred to them due to my prior experience in the new home industry).  I was present with them at every design center appointment and I was a part of most of the interior selections during construction.  The details and the love we all put into carefully selecting each layer of textiles and design is what made this home so very special.

I have to say, this family was really brave and open hearted to this journey and to think that they moved from a home where they had 35 plus years of memories into a brand new home.  I know this sounds dreamy but family is everything to this client and they really risked a lot making such a large move.  I am so thankful that my dear client trusted me and looked to me to guide them through the entire process.  We are sharing some photos of the turn key design of this Old World meets California Styling.

Happy Designing!

We love chairs, what can we say?

Have you ever had too much to do so you decide to do something that is unrelated to keep your focus? I know I am totally complex here but seriously! When I am overwhelmed, I need to refocus on something totally off task to get back on task. Well, this happened to me (again) today. I have drawings, bids, design work and imagining to do on various projects, and what do I do? Look for chairs that inspire me.

I LOVE chairs! I have a collection of chairs that I love to admire in my home and office. If I see a fabulous chair, old or new, I will find a spot in my home or design project to place it in. Do any of these chairs speak to you like they do to me? I am excited to hear!

It was with great pleasure that I was fortunate and blessed to visit Winter Market in Las Vegas this past week.  For those of you who are not familiar with The World Trade Center in Las Vegas, imagine three very tall buildings 16 floors high, each filled with everything you can imagine for home furnishings.  Just imagine, dream, wish…it is almost like eye candy for the design aficionado!

I was thankful to arrive just in time to hear my design icon, Barbara Barry, sharing her words of wisdom with grace and absolute beauty.  I am smitten over every word that comes out of Barbara’s mouth!

The main purpose of my visit was to shop with a lovely client that needed to furnish her beautiful vacation home in Encinitas.  I had so much fun, learned a lot and rally soaked up all the lovely furnishings that made me really fall in love with some of the recent projects we are working on.

It is a perfect time to start a design project; there are so many wonderful textiles, furnishings and accessories waiting to find a home to settle into as we are moving into Spring.

sweet dreams & upholstered headboards

Whether your design style is classic and tailored, modern and bold, casual and eclectic, or romantic and elegant, upholstered headboards always add certain warmth and sophistication to a bedroom. The options for designing a custom upholstered headboard are endless – that is why we love them!  They can be designed with any shape and fabric and details including nail heads, trim and tufting give each headboard a unique quality that will fit even the most distinctive design style.
Here are a few favorites.

bedside tables with double duty

One of my favorite ways to design a bedroom sanctuary is with two different bedside tables.  I love the asymmetry of two different tables and the interest they add to the space making it unexpected.

One of my personal favorite bedside table options is to use a writing desk. The double function of a desk as a bedside table is genius. Keep a notepad handy to jot down last minute thoughts before bed or keep beautiful stationary in the drawer for those thoughtful hand-written notes. It may just become your new favorite cozy nook to read a good book!
