2013 highlights

The year 2013 has been a wonderful year for Sérendipité. We were blessed with many exciting design projects that let us take our creativity to new heights. We also had the opportunity to partake in many fun and challenging ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) events.
We participated in the first ever White Box Challenge hosted by Rivera Magazine and The Stonemill Design Center where we took first place. Yay! Valerie was the model on team Sarah Strader at Designer Runway (a 90 minute design challenge to create a couture gown by hand with upholstery fabrics). Another highlight was the Holiday Table Top event at the Tommy Bahama home store hosted by Luxe Magazine.
Although these challenges and events were fun, we met lovely people and the experiences were inspiring.  We must say working with our wonderful clients is what  keeps us truly inspired and it is always a warm reminder that we are so fortunate to do what we love each day, creating harmonious spaces for our dear clients.
As the year comes to a close we would like to share a few of the moments that made our year so memorable. Cheers to a bright New Year!
Happy Designing!

holiday tops

Anyone who knows me well knows of my love for cooking and entertaining and how I enjoy savoring the moment. When I am not busy playing interior designer, you will often find me busy planning my next dinner party or Holiday gathering. I enjoy dreaming up creative menus and table-scapes that are inviting and lovely.  I feel passionate that when I invite guests to my home that their time is special and unforgettable.

Ironically, I was invited to participate in an up-coming ASID design event called Holiday Tops at the Tommy Bahama Home Store. How could I resist?!  Entertaining is my passion next to interior design and a well dressed tabled is my specialty.

Eight designers, including myself, will be designing a festive and unique Holiday table setting to showcase to the public. Over the past few weeks, I have been having so much fun researching, shopping, sketching and pondering over how to create the loveliest table display.

I am honored to be one of the designers asked to participate in this event hosted by Luxe magazine. Please join us at the Tommy Bahama Home Store in Fashion Island on November 7th from 1pm-4pm to see what I've dreamt up for my table. It will be a lovely event!

The best part; If you like what you see, all designer's table displays will be up for auction. Or just come mingle and get fresh DIY ideas for decorating your own Holiday table. We would love to see you all!

Happy Designing!

the results are in

After much anticipation, planning, dreaming and coordination Sérendipité is the proud and humble winner of the first-ever "White Box" Challenge! This event was hosted by ASID Orange County, Stonemill Design Center and Rivera magazine.

A Big THANK YOU to our sponsors and hardworking, super talented craftsmen that artfully brought our Jacqueline Kennedy inspired room to life!

Erickson Wood Works designed and masterfully created a parlor for us with the beautiful coffered ceiling, wainscoting and applied moldings. Don is truly an artist and his ideas always blow me away.

Victor, of California Stone and his team cut slabs of Silestone into 16”x24” bricks and installed them on the back wall.
Chef Lorenzo did an amazing job and made our room extra special with his pastry confections. He filled the "grout" on the Silestone bricks with ribbon frosting and made handmade gold sugar spun towers to adorn each candle on the chandelier to give the room a glowing ambiance. His team did a wonderful job with the bite size chocolate cake topped with habanero caviar and miniature edible roses for the guest to enjoy.
The vintage chaise lounge from 1910 was a flea market find and beautifully re-upholstered by Superb Chair in an exquisite Vervain fabric.
Noreen runs a custom art and frame boutique and graciously sponsored our 48” x 48” beaded mirror.
Richard Marshall Fine Flooring, my favorite hardwood flooring EVER designed a fabulous chevron pattern, dark wood floor that really created a beautiful foundation for our space.
The understated and ever so lovely heirloom, hand-woven rug was loaned to us by Stark Rugs.

Precision Wallcovering did an amazing job applying subtle wallpaper from Harlequin. Can I just say; I love wall covering! This simple accent transforms a space magically.

Again, this experience was certainly challenging however it was so much fun and the end result was much more fabulous than we expected. We met so many wonderful and talented designers and the shared camaraderie throughout the day was delightful.

Happy Designing!

White Box Challenge

What do you get when you pair a handful of talented interior designers each with a different artisan pastry chef and showroom vendor from Stonemill Design Center who provides the designer with one “inspiration piece” and ask them to design an 8' x 10' innovative and unforgettable room? You get The White Box Challenge!

Sérendipité is thrilled to announce that we have been chosen as one of eight Orange County interior designers to compete in The White Box Challenge sponsored by the Orange County Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), Riviera Magazine and Stonemill Design Center. This real-life competition is based on the popular TV show The White Room Challenge on HGTV. Each designer has been paired with a different local pastry chef and vendor who will provide the designer with a piece of inspiration to create a unique room vignette.  The trick…the room must be completed in a 24 hour time frame!

Yes, that means once again I will be reverting to her college days and pulling an all-nighter (bring on the coffee, please!!).  Valerie is very excited to have been paired with sponsor vendor Cosentino/Silestone (quartz surfaces) who has provided a wonderful piece of inspiration to complement the room.  She has also been paired with the renowned Anaheim White House Restaurant who will be masterfully creating a dessert to correlate with her room design and grace her distinctive space.

To share in this excitement and to see what we dreamed up for this challenge, please join us June 6th, 2013 at the public event “Design & Desserts” at Stonemill Design Center to see her vignette up close and personal. Attendees of the “Design & Desserts” event will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite White Box Challenge Designer & Pastry Chef team.  We can’t wait to see you there!
